Barry Joyce loved golf and spending time with friends. When he wasn’t on the golf course, he was running his successful local restaurant – Fuzzy’s Bar-B-Que. For him, the restaurant business was not just about feeding people. It was about welcoming neighbors into his “home” and putting on that fun-loving southern hospitality he so aptly could do so that everyone had a good time. Eating at Fuzzy's was like a Southern Shindig!
Southern Shindigs is a fundraising event to bring together friends for a good cause. It’s real easy and anyone can participate. Here is what you have to do:
• Invite friends and family to a gathering
• Have food, drink and fun
• Ask everyone in attendance to make a donation to the Barry L. Joyce Local Cancer Support Fund
There are lots of ideas to create your own Southern Shindig. You can host a:
• Cook out
• Family Reunion
• Baseball Victory Celebration
• Church pot luck
• Wine or Beer Tasting
• Superbowl Party or other sports event
• Holiday Party
A Shindig can be themed like “A Southern Redneck Party” or can be a “just for kids Ice Cream Sundae” party. The ideas are limitless. You can invite 10 people or 100 people. Some hosts have made a specific request for donation, others have asked “give what you can”. Either way, the fund benefits from everyone’s generosity. You will be surprised how much money you will raise and how much fun you will have.
It is that simple. The hosts provide the party and the guests provide the donations - all for a good cause. What a great excuse to have a party!
